Two new layers have been added to the IndianaMap viewer, named "Crops 2011" and "Crops 2012" which are found under the "Environment" folder. These data show categorized land-cover data produced using satellite imagery for the purpose of providing supplemental acreage estimates for major crop commodities in Indiana for the 2011 and 2012 growing seasons. They were obtained from the "Cropscape" Website hosted by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
Additionally, the REST services for older crop data layers from 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2006 have been removed from the map viewer. However, if you wish to download these data for the older years, they are still available from the IndianaMap Layer Gallery.
Further, the broken links that users reported for accessing downloads and metadata for the 2009 and 2010 crop data layers have been restored.
The data for “Managed Lands IDNR” were updated by Indiana Department of Natural Resources personnel on November 8, 2013. It shows natural and recreation areas which are owned or managed by the IDNR. Attributes include property names, contact information, access, as well as types of land use for each site.
The data for “Institutional Control Sites” were updated by Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) personnel on December 5, 2013. It shows Institutional Control (IC) site locations in Indiana. When any amount of contamination above a residential closure level is left on a property, a legal measure called an Institutional Control (IC) may be needed. An IC protects human health and the environment by restricting property activity, use, or access.

On December 4, 2013 the IndianaMap Viewer was updated with 2 new layers and 4 updated layers. This entry was inadvertantly omitted from the IndianaMap News Blog:
4 Local County-Based Framework Layers Updated
The four layers that provide county-based framework data (including Address Points, Street Centerlines, Land Parcels, and Misc. Government Boundaries) have been updated. The layers were compiled from data maintained by various county agencies in Indiana, as part of the IndianaMap Data Sharing Initiative (DSI) between Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC), Indiana Office of Technology (IOT), Indiana Geographic Information Office (GIO), Indiaan Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), Indiana Geological Survey (IGS), and participating Indiana counties. NOTE: These layers are part of the SIXTEENTH set of data harvested through the ongoing DSI program from local government sources on November 22, 2013. These layers are provided "as-is" and have not been quality control checked for completeness, accuracy, or content, and should not be used for any official or business purpose. Be sure to read the full metadata for each layer.
2 New Layers Added
Two new layers have been added to the IndianaMap viewer. "Water Bodies Lakes Bathymetry" shows bathymetric contours for 85 lakes in Indiana. The data was supplied by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and shows the depths of water from the shoreline of each lake. "School Districts 2013 USCB" shows the boundaries for the unified school districts in Indiana. It is attributed with district names. The data were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB) TIGER/Line download Web site on November 18, 2013.
We have added 3 layers to the IndianaMap Hydrology folder showing "Water Bodies Lakes LocalRes," "Water Bodies Rivers LocalRes," and "Water Bodies Streams LocalRes." These layers represent the latest release by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) of the local-resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), 2013. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. Also, high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000 to 1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. The local resolution NHD is developed at 1:2,400 scale, and adds even more detail to the NHD. This dataset is currently incomplete but includes data for the following HUC08 subbasins in Indiana: 05120104 (Upper Eel), 0712002 (Iroquois), 05120105 (Middle Wabash-Deer), 04120107 (Wildcat), 05120204 (Driftwood), 05120205 (Flatrock-Haw), 05120207 (Muscatatuck), and 05120110 (Sugar).
We have updated 3 layers on the IndianaMap viewer. If you are a user of these data you can follow the links below to the IndianaMap Layer Gallery to access the preview maps, metadata, and download files for the latest versions.
- The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has supplied IndianaMap with a newly formatted layer named "Waste Disposal Storage Handling." This layer shows various types of permitted waste sites in Indiana including construction/demolition waste sites, CFO compost sites, clean fill sites, municipal and non-municipal waste sites, open dumps, restricted waste sites, surface impoundments, sanitary landfills, incinerators, material recovery sites, medical waste sites, recycling sites, and waste transfer stations. This layer replaces six formerly independent layers on the IndianaMap.
- IDEM has also supplied updates for two layers named "Waste Water NPDES Facilities" and "Waste Water NPDES Pipe Locations." These data show permitted facilities and waste water discharge points in Indiana, obtained from the Integrated Compliance Information System (ICIS) database of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Blocks, Block Groups, and Tracts are not legal boundaries, but are considered stable geographic units used for the presentation of decennial census data. These data were all obtained from the Web page of the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), and were originally published to represent 2011 updates.
The layer showing Children in Poverty, by Indiana school districts for 2011 was also obtained from the Web page of the USCB, with cooperation from the Indiana Business Research Center who provided the tabular data for 2011 "Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates" (SAIPE) program of the USCB.
