Five Layers Added to the Map
by
Blocks, Block Groups, and Tracts are not legal boundaries, but are considered stable geographic units used for the presentation of decennial census data. These data were all obtained from the Web page of the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), and were originally published to represent 2011 updates.
The layer showing Children in Poverty, by Indiana school districts for 2011 was also obtained from the Web page of the USCB, with cooperation from the Indiana Business Research Center who provided the tabular data for 2011 "Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates" (SAIPE) program of the USCB.
The 113th Congressional Districts for Indiana were updated from the adopted redistricted boundaries established in 2011. It has been attributed with the latest 2013 election results with representative name, party affiliation, as well as contact information such as Web sites and offices addresses for each representative.
NEW - 118th General Assembly
by
Two new layers showing the results of the last election for the 118th Indiana General Assembly -Senate and House of Representatives have been added to the map. The 118th Indiana General Assembly convenes on January 8, 2013. These data replace the two layers published in 2011 that showed the results of the redistricted legislative boundaries for Indiana, established for 2011-2021. Attributes include the name of the legislator, district number, party affiliation, and a link to the legislator's Web site (Note: some Web sites still point to legislators from 117th G.A., the state is updating these links).
The Indiana General Assembly consists of two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. Indiana has a part-time legislature that does not meet year-round. The General Assembly convenes on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January. During odd-numbered years the legislature meets for 61 days (not necessarily consecutively) and must be adjourned by April 30. During even-numbered years the legislature meets for 30 days (not necessarily consecutively) and must be adjourned by March 15. Members are elected from districts that are realigned every ten years. Representatives (100 in total) serve terms of two years and senators (50 in total) serve terms of four years. Both houses can create bills, but bills must pass both houses before it can be submitted to the governor and enacted into law.
NEW - Interstate 69 extension, U.S. National Grid data
by
A new layer has been added showing the Interstate 69 Extension and associated ramps for southern Indiana. The first three sections (from Evansville to Crane) opened for travel on November 19, 2012. The fourth section (from the US 231 interchange to Bloomington) is also scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014. The layer showing Mile Markers - System 1 Roads has also been updated with markers for the new extension. Data were provided by INDOT personnel on November 8, 2012.
A new layer showing the U.S. National Grid (1000 meters) (USNG) has been added. The USNG establishes a nationally consistent grid reference system, seamless across state jurisdictions and is the foundtaion for a universal base map index. It provides an unambiguous way to describe locations where users are operating in areas away from established road networks, or in areas affected by natural disasters where roads or road signs have been destroyed. This system is flexible and expandable and can be used to represent larger areas (four digit values) down to resolutions of single points on a map (ten digit values). NOTE - A PDF document is included in the download ZIP file for this layer that outlines background information, as well as a detailed description of how to create, read, and utilize national grid coordinate values.
